Third Annual PBA Triple Threat Challenge

This is the third story of a 2005 Papa Bear Awards Triple Threat Challenge response trilogy.

“Third Annual Papa Bear Awards Triple Threat Challenge – A story dealing directly with one or more third season episodes containing roughly 300 words. It can be an extension, prologue, epilogue, coda, a missing scene or even a story dealing with the events of the episode. To make it a true triple threat, you must use exactly three characters in the story.”

In the episode “Sticky Wicket Newkirk,” Newkirk successfully convinces Colonel Hogan that the boys need a night in town occasionally. This is what happened when it was Carter’s turn.

“Andrew, why are you here?” Mady asked, looking nervously around the Hofbrau.

“I came to see you,” Carter responded.

“But someone might see you,” Mady said quietly.

Before Carter could respond, he saw Sergeant Schultz staring at him wide eyed by the door. Schultz pointed a finger at him and started walking over.

“Carter,” Schultz said when he got to the table. “What are you doing out of camp?”

“It’s my night out, Schultz,” Carter replied.

“You are a prisoner,” Schultz said quietly. “You do not get nights out!”

“That just doesn’t seem fair to me,” Carter replied. “Does it seem fair to you, Mady?” Mady shook her head tentatively. “See, she doesn’t think it’s fair either. That’s two against one, Schultz.”

“Carter, you should be in camp,” Schultz begged.

“Schultz, you wouldn’t want barbed wire to come between a guy and his girl, would you?” Carter asked.

Schultz’s mouth opened and closed several times. “You,” he said, pointing a finger at Carter. “And you,” he said, shifting to point at Mady. “Are a couple?”

Mady blushed and looked at the floor. Carter smiled and said, “Yeah.”

“Bu-bu-bu-bu-bu-bu-bu,” Schultz stammered. “How did you meet?”

“Well, it’s like this, Schultz,” Carter began.

“Stop!” Schultz said. “I want to know nothing, NOTHING!” he said and turned towards the door.

“Oh, Schultz,” Carter said, stopping the large sergeant before he could walk away. Schultz turned back around to look at Carter.

Carter looked at Mady before continuing. A coy grin appeared on his face as he said, “Don’t wait up, okay?”

Schultz rolled his eyes and moaned as if he were in pain. “Ach du liebe,” he said, and walked towards the door.

“So are you busy after work?” Carter asked Mady.

Mady smiled. “I have a date … with my guy,” she said.
