Who is
this Groovie character, anyway?or A less-boring title for "Jeff's Homepage"
or "The Frivolous Use of Links" page

Hi! My name is
Groovie and this is my pad. I put this page
together to give you an idea what this pad is about and who put it together.
So about me ... I guess I should start way back at the beginning. OK, so, in the beginning, God said "Let there be light. Let there be sound. Let there be drums. Let there be guitars. Let there be Rock!" No wait, wait, that's not right. Wait a minute, let me turn off this AC/DC CD that's playing in the background here.
Hmm, let's see, where were we. Oh yea ... I was born in a log cabin. At an early age, I quit school to help support my family. Later I decided to study law and become a lawyer. At that time, I decided that I wanted to be President of the United States, end slavery in the country and watch plays at Ford's Theater in Washington DC. No wait, wait. That can't be me. That sounds too much like Abraham Lincoln.
OK, start again ... this time not so far back. I am married and my wife originally comes from Ukraine. We have 2 children, named Boris and Natasha. One day, the kids were looking pretty sad, and when I asked them what was wrong, they said "Papa, ve vant pets". (Yes, they actually talk like that ...) So I asked what kind of pets they wanted, and they replied "Ve must get moose and sqvirrel". That's it? A moose and a squirrel. Hey, no problem! I wasn't about to let the fact that we were living in a pretty small place in Cambridge Massachusetts deter me from the moose-thing, so I went and got a moose and squirrel. That's how we got Bullwinkle and Rocky. Our Canadian neighbor, Dudley Doright started complaining about the smell, which I found strange because, hey, he's Canadian and drinks Moosehead beer! No wait, wait, that's not right either. OK, let me turn off this Rocky and Bullwinkle cartoon on the TV.
Alright, let's do this right. Hello - my name is Jeff Evans, a.k.a. Groovie. The name Groovie was given to me by a friend while in college at Ohio University. Why Groovie? I can't remember, but it's surely not because we were big Brady Bunch fans. The name Jeff was given to me by my parents, of course. I'm sure that some other people have names that they call me, but since this is a family page, we'll have to leave those out! Am I a hippie? No, not in the strict sense of the word. However I do live in a groovie little hippie pad here in cyberspace, so I can't be all bad!! So why is this place called Groovie's Little Hippie Pad? Well, I stole the name from a ZZ Top song title and I like it, that's why!
I currently live in Framingham Massachusetts, which is about 20 miles east of Boston. Oops, wait a second. I meant WEST of Boston. If I lived 20 miles east of Boston, I'd be doing some serious swimming in the Atlantic Ocean. I am not, however, a native New Englander, being born and raised in Whitehall, Ohio, where I managed to graduate high school. After stops in Athens and Cleveland, I ended up in Cambridge Massachusetts. (All this means is that I don't say 'pahk the cah'.) The stop in Athens was not then one in Ontario Canada, Georgia, Texas, Maine, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, New York, Tennessee, Alabama or even Greece. It was the bustling metropolis of Athens Ohio located on the scenic Hocking river. I attended Ohio University and received a Computer Science degree in <mumble mumble mumble>. (What's that? Didn't catch the year? Too bad!) I am currently a Software Engineer at Kronos, Incorporated in Chelmsford Massachusetts, working on the scheduling piece of the Workforce Central Suite of applications.
My Groovie wife Lilia is originally from the city of Zaporizhzhya in Ukraine, but is now living here in Framingham Massachusetts (naturally). While in Ukraine, she graduated from Zaporozhye State University and became a grade school teacher. She also lived near the city of Kharkiv (or Kharkov) and spent summers in the Crimea. At the moment, she is currently employed as a full time mother, which is a job all its own! She also keeps herself busy by being active in the Russian Orthodox Church of the Epiphany, which is one of the Russian Orthodox churches here in Boston. We actually met in Paris, where I went to lose my luggage and she went to ride on the Metro and take pictures of the Eiffel Tower.
I have a teenage Groovie daughter, Anna, who attends school in the Framingham school district. She also attends some classes at the Russian School of Mathematics here in the Boston area. She was originally born in the city of Zaporizhzhya in Ukraine and speaks pretty good Russian. Being a typical teenager, she likes such things as talking on the phone, listening to music, talking on the phone, watching TV, talking on the phone, playing on the computer and did I mention talking on the phone? I could put more here ... but she's got to phone it in first!
I have a younger Groovie daughter named Stefanie, who attends the B.L.O.C.K.S. preschool program here in Framingham. She was born here in Boston, at the New England Medical Center. Stefanie enjoys lots of things like riding her bicycle, Thomas the Tank Engine, Winnie the Pooh and playing with her new friend in the neighborhood, Nicholas. She learned Russian as her first language, since her Mom was able to stay at home and teach her all kinds of things. She also likes to read, and has Russian favorites, like Cheburashka, and English favorites, like Dr. Seuss. She also likes to laugh at me when I try to say something in Russian - I guess I am not allowed to speak that language or something!
I also have a Groovie Dalmatian named Atlas. Atlas has taken over as Woofmaster of the Groovie Kennel website from the former Woofmaster, Murphy. Murphy passed on in 2000 at the age of 15. Atlas likes to have fun, as all Dalmatians do. His favorite game is to play "Who's the Alpha Dog" with me, a game he always loses. He's got a lot of energy and loves to go for runs and walks. In fact, a couple mile jog for him is just warming up! We picked Atlas up at the Buddy Dog Humane Society, where his former humans left him when they had to move. He's very stubborn (another Dalmatian trait) but also very smart and affectionate. Anyway, you can read more about him on his own website - why should I talk about him here!
I originally created these pages back in 1996 to learn HTML, find a better way of storing bookmarked links and really just to have a little fun. As you can tell, there is a less-than-serious note to most of the pages. I also figured that maybe I can even provide a laugh or two sprinkled in with the useful information. The Pad has evolved (and is still evolving) from simple bookmarked links to various areas covering my interests (like on The Erle Stnaley Gardner Page and WebStalag13), hobbies (like on the Shortwave Set), items I've had to research (like the Boston Auto Dealers page) and family interests (like on The Groovie Kennel and Ukraine pages). I don't get a chance to work on the pages much, but I am never really 100% satisfied, so they will always be changing.
So enjoy your visit. Comments are always welcome!
A Sunny Place!
