The Author

One of the world’s best selling authors, Erle Stanley Gardner was the master of American mystery fiction. Trained as a civil rights lawyer Gardner’s books feature intricate, ever twisting plots in the best tradition of whodunits. More than half of his books feature Perry Mason, the fictional attorney who was the star of a hugely popular TV series, starring Raymond Burr. Gardner himself featured in the final episode of the series, playing the part of the courtroom judge. At the height of his popularity Gardner was selling an average of 26,000 of his novels every day.
